POWAY -- A Poway bank robber was arrested in Lakeside on Friday after trying to escape in a new Jaguar, a sheriff's lieutenant said.
The man, wearing all black and a golf hat, entered the Citibank branch at 13408 Poway Road and handed a demand note to a teller, Lt. Hope Andrews said. The teller, who was unharmed but badly shaken, handed over about $2,000 in cash, Andrews said. The robber did not show any weapon.
The thief was seen speeding from the bank in a black Jaguar with dealer plates, Andrews said. He had a female passenger.
Witnesses described the robber as a thin white man with brown hair, about 20 years old.
At about 12:15 p.m., deputies on southbound Highway 67 near Scripps Poway Road reported they were following the suspect Jaguar, Andrews said.
Deputies, Highway Patrol officers and the sheriff's helicopter followed the suspect to Lakeside, where he bailed out of the car near Willow Road and Moreno Avenue, Andrews said.
The helicopter crew helped guide deputies to a tree where the suspect was hiding. He was arrested, and his female passenger was detained for questioning, Andrews said.
