OCEANSIDE ---- Federal agents said they broke up a maritime smuggling attempt last weekend when they arrested 13 illegal immigrants from Boliva and Mexico in a boat docked at the marina in Oceanside Harbor.

At about 2 p.m. Sunday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents watched a 22-foot Cobalt boat dock at the marina, then questioned everyone onboard the little boat, according to a news release from the agency Monday.

Two of the 13 were suspected of trying to smuggle the others into the country, the agency said. Eight of the people ---- six men and two women ---- trying to slip into the country illegally were from Mexico, agents said. Also in the group were two women and one man from Boliva, agents said in the news release.

Everyone on the boat was arrested, and the agency seized the boats, according to the news release.

The arrests in Oceanside came a day after Customs and Border Protection agents stopped and boarded an 18-foot Bayliner cross from Mexico to U.S. waters at 4 p.m. Agents said they found and arrested eight people on the vessel, all of whom were suspected of entering the country illegally.
