Scrapbooking for cancer marathon to be held
VISTA ---- The TriCity Pavilion Shopping Center will host a 24 Hour Survivor Crop Scrapbooking For Cancer Marathon from 8 a.m. Oct. 17 to 8 a.m. Oct. 18. The fundraiser will promote breast cancer awareness and benefit research in advance of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure breast cancer walk Nov. 1 in San Diego. Sponsored by North County-based Ever After Scrapbooks, the fundraiser will include more than 100 volunteers making mini scrapbooking projects for women undergoing chemotherapy. The goal is to raise $70,000. Camille Ailen of Ever After Scrapbooks started this event five years ago after her best friend, mentor and co-founder died of breast cancer. Literary society to host poets
VISTA ---- Bob Lundy and Elizabeth Yahn Williams will be the featured poets at the Village Idiots Literary Society monthly literature reading at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at Gallery 204, 204 Main St. An open mic begins at 8 p.m. for people who want to read their original poetry and prose or anything written by another artist. Lundy's poetry appears in various San Diego anthologies and in the ANALOG science fiction magazine. Theatre to host fundraiser featuring five years of Broadway
VISTA ---- The Broadway Theater will host "Broadway in the Avo," a two-hour musical fundraiser at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and at 2 p.m. and at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Avo Playhouse, 303 Main St. The event will feature past actors returning to perform songs and scenes from five years of Broadway Theater musicals. Theater co-owner Douglas Davis will emcee and perform a musical review as Groucho Marx in the first act. The second act will feature scenes and songs from 2007's "Ricky Dean and the Doo Wop Girls," 2008's "Girls Night Out," and this year's "Back to Broadway'"and "The Composers." Tickets cost $20. Retirement facility hosts '50s-style sock hop

Sikes Adobe Halloween archaeology event on tap
ESCONDIDO ---- The San Dieguito River Park will have a Halloween archaeology event for children 6 through 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 31 at the construction site of the Sikes Adobe, 12655 Sunset Drive. Children will participate in some spooky spading in the soil surrounding the construction zone with volunteer archaeologists, and then participate in a scavenger hunt. Boy scouts to host haunted hotel

Airport to celebrate past, future with barbecue fundraiser
