Friends of the Library hold book sale
ESCONDIDO ---- The Friends of the Escondido Library will hold a half-price sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Turrentine Room at the library, 239 S. Kalmia St. The sale includes hardback and paperback books, classics, modern classics, signed books, vintage collectible books, collector books, and foreign language books. There will also be a large assortment of DVDs, videos, CDs, LPs and audio books, as well as maps and magazines. Nonfiction books will be sorted by subject. Look for your favorite genres, including cookbooks, gardening, diet and exercise, travel, self-help and art. Class to be cover low-tech paper making
ESCONDIDO ---- Renee Richetts will teach a class on "Paper Making the Low-Tech Way" from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Escondido Municipal Gallery, 262 E. Grand Ave. Homemade paper lends a distinctive personal touch to everything from greeting cards to personal notes and letters. Cost is $65 for members and $75 for nonmembers. Lecture on pioneers at history center

Art association to hold garage sale
ESCONDIDO ---- The nonprofit Escondido Art Association will hold a two-day garage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24-25 at 333 Cypress Crest Terrace, and is still accepting donations for the event. All items should be in good condition. Items for sale will include frames, mat boards, art supplies and small paintings. Seminar to discuss alcohol and drug abuse

VISTA ---- The Boys & Girls Club of Vista will host its 10th annual Lights On Afterschool event honoring local after-school programs from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 at 410 W. California Ave. This free event stresses the need to save afterschool programs from budget cuts. Special presentations include the Tierra Caliente Folkorico dance group, music by 35 Production DJ featuring female teen vocalist sensation Tanya Mackenna, a kids fashion show with homemade dresses, and a drama skit performed and written by club members. New Haven group will give presentation
