Series to tackle rebuilding issues | ∞
FALLBROOK ---- A series of meetings for fire victims over the next two months is designed to help people who lost their homes in the October Rice fire work through the rebuilding process, officials said last week.
Hosted by the county's Department of Planning and Land Use, the gatherings should help clarify some of the confusion surrounding building permits and other red tape that officials have said they're trying to minimize in the wake of last fall's wildfires.
The first meeting, scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fallbrook Presbyterian Church, will focus on what local residents need to know before they start rebuilding.
Subsequent meetings include tutorials on drawing site plans, March 5 and 6; understanding building plans, April 7; and fire-resistant building techniques, May 7.
A special meeting tailored to those who lost homes at Valley Oaks mobile home park is also scheduled for March 8.
Art Blodgett, director of the fire recovery center on East Mission Road, said all fire victims would benefit from hearing the information the county will present at the meetings.
"From what I'm seeing, this is valuable information, no matter where they are in the process," Blodgett said. "If they have this information up front, when they work with contractors and architects, it will save them headaches down the road."
The series includes a total of six meetings in Fallbrook:
