'Naked in Ashes' an eye-opening study of dedication

The spiritual quest of the yogi in India is certainly no easy path, as we see in the often riveting documentary "Naked in Ashes." The hard work and dedication is the point, of course.
"Naked in Ashes" follows the path to bliss practiced by more than 13 million yogi in India, who take dedication to what most of us would consider extremes. The film follows a handful of disciples who take on different practices ---- from big-picture choices such as chastity and austerity ---- to individual proofs of commitment such as standing for 12 years, or bathing themselves in ashes of the dead, as these kind, wise men seek to end what they believe is a constant cycle of reincarnation. They must wash away thousands of years of their sins, they say, to find everlasting peace.
"Naked in Ashes" is a lively, vibrant study of culture and practice, always fascinating and sometimes astonishing.
